               1. The 15th of August, 1947, is a red-letter day in the history of India. On this very day India got its independence.

              2. It has a special (fa) meaning for all the people of the country. It reminds us of the sacrifice (afer) and suffering that the freedom fighters had to undergo for winning freedom.





                 3. The 15th of August is the final outcome of a series of and continued struggles (). The Sepoy Mutiny was the first long expression of the desire of the Indian people to be free. But it was crushed (fe). Again, towards the end of the 19th century, the desire for freedom found its expression in the Indian Nationa Congress. When Mahatma Gandhi appeared on the scene this expression became active (4). He instilled a sense of patriotism () into the heart of the Indian people. A number of great me like Motilal Nehru, C. R. Das, Madan Mohan Malaviya, Rajendra Prasad. Jawaharlal Nehru, Maulana Azad, Ballabh Bhai Pate Subhas Chandra Bose and J. P... joined Gandhijee. The result was that the twentieth century saw the great struggle for freedom The non-violent non-co-operation (3) movement started by Gandhijee shook the foundations (a) of the British rule in India The Britishers tried every means to suppress (a) the movement but in vain. The Indian people faced bullets and batons in a non violent (3) way. All the leaders, including Gandhijee, were sent to jail many times. Many types of brutal tortures were inflicted on the leaders and the people but their spirit could not be cooled down. Finally Gandhijee started the 'Quit India Movement, in 1942 His 'Do or Die' mission was accepted by the people and the whole country rose in rebellion (faste) against the British rule in India. The Britishers had no choice but to agree to quit India. On the 15th of August 1947 they finally handed over power to the people of India Thus this day marks the end of the British rule and the dawn of freedom in India.
